AANGAN
We build rooms the way a haveli builds shade — with a screen, a courtyard, and somewhere for the light to land.

Approach
A jaali is not decoration. It is a wall that agreed to let the afternoon in.

The Drawings
Every project begins as ink on grid paper. Hold a drawing and it becomes the room it was promising.
The Descent — Rani Baoli, Bundi

The Courtyard
A nalukettu is four rooms holding one square of sky. This one is lit by the hour where you are sitting — checking your clock… Drag the day if you would rather see it at another time.
The practice
Two rooms, two thousand kilometres apart.
Aangan was started in a Jaipur outhouse with one drafting board and a borrowed set of French curves. The Kochi studio came eleven years later, largely because we kept losing arguments about timber.
We work on houses, one hotel every few years, and the occasional temple annexe. We do not do showflats. We are slow, and we say so early.
